  • Promote and protect health

  • Forestall decline

  • Provide opportunities for continuing education, employment and community reintegration

  • Contribute to enhanced socialization and behavioral skills

  • Under the direction of Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), treatment sessions offer specific therapeutic benefits that focus on improving cognitive abilities, emotional stability, behavioral control, and physical functioning.

.

Vocational Skills, Ongoing Support

Supported Employment

Clients entering the program will be assessed to determine their vocational capabilities, strengths, interests, and occupational needs. Vocational Assessments are completed by a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).

Clients with interest in paid employment have the opportunity to participate in supported employment work experiences. All productive activity is customized to meet the requests of the client, as well as their cognitive and physical abilities.

Some examples of work experience options:

  • Onsite Dining Room Assistant

  • Onsite Laundry Assistant

  • Onsite Housekeeping Assistant

  • Onsite DTS programming:  Light assembly, Sorting, and Document destruction

  • Offsite Community Employer Partnership with Doc’s Ice Cream & Coffee (New Boston, MI)

  • Work placement is based on the outcomes of the vocational assessment, along with clients, guardian, and treatment team input.

Skill Building, Therapeutic Recreation

Activity Therapy

Clients entering the program will be assessed to determine their recreation and leisure interests, strengths, and overall physical, cognitive, social, and work service needs. Each assessment will be completed by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

Activity sessions are both enjoyable and purposeful. Skilled leisure activities are offered based on each client’s unique interests and may work on a variety of individualized goals such as self-expression, improving memory and recall, sequencing, improving attention span, and encouraging appropriate social interaction and communication.

As clients meet their therapy goals set by Physical and Occupational therapies, client may be recommended fitness for continued maintenance. Fitness group, a part of Day Treatment Services, is designed for the different levels of physical ability demonstrated by clients served and focuses on areas such as range of motion, muscle relaxation, and tone reduction.

Although the program employs recognized principles and techniques of Therapeutic Recreation, it also “extends” to other therapeutic disciplines including Physical therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech Therapy, and Vocational Rehabilitation (Supported Employment).
